Soviet Union USSR. Medal for Valor with number 957429. Awarded in 1944. Type 2, Option 1.

This decoration has been researched in the Soviet archives. Most digital documents are attached, although the buyer will be provided with complete information in Russian, their translation into English of the main documents and images in higher resolution.

This medal was awarded to NUZHNENKO IVAN FEDOROVICH of Ukrainian nationality, belonging to the 2nd minesweeping brigade.

“He has been serving in the 2nd minesweeping brigade since 16 May 1944 in the capacity of an engine section commander of the minesweeping motorboat “КТЩ-260”. Sailor NUZHNENKO proved himself as a well trained specialist, who many times replaced the the motorboat boatswain and took the vessel to combat missions. Since 01 June 1944, he has maid 40 combat minesweeping missions near town Kerch in the Yeni-Kale strait, in which his motorboat swept and destroyed 3 enemy contact mines.
Thanks to his good care and prophylactic, the machinery of his responsibility had no breakdowns nor malfunctions, and caused no delays to the combat missions. Comrade NUZHNENKO is a gifted section commander and effective team leader of his crew.
He deserves to be bestowed with state award medal “FOR VALOR”.”
