Spain. Officer’s patch of the 40th Division of the Moroccan Army Corps. Spanish Civil War. Nationalist Army. Hand embroidered. The 40th Division was a unit of the Nationalist Army that fought in the Spanish Civil War, during which it would take part in the battles of Catalonia and Valsequillo. The unit was created in May 1938, within the Moroccan Army Corps, with Infantry Colonel Saturnino González Badía as Commander and Chief of Staff Luis de Lamo Peris as Chief of Staff. The unit completed its organization phase around May 14. A few days later, on May 22, he took over from the 150th Division in the sector of the Segre river that ran from the confluence between the Segre and Ebro rivers to Alfarrás. He did not take part in the battles of Balaguer or the Ebro, remaining in reserve. At the end of 1938 the unit took part in the offensive in Catalonia together with the rest of the Moroccan Army Corps. In January 1939, after the beginning of the Valsequillo-Peñarroya battle, the unit was sent as reinforcement to the Extremadura front, taking part in the bloody fighting that took place and the subsequent Nationalist counteroffensive. On January 19, the forces of the 40th Division reconquered the Sierra del Risco and later continued to press into the bag, seizing Los Blázquez after defeating the resistance of the Republican 61st Division. The division would be dissolved after the end of the contest.
