Germany, Prussia. Prussian Cavalry Officer’s Sword, Model 1889 (Kavalerie Degen).
The handle is iron and features the Prussian eagle on the guard.
The blade has the manufacturer’s mark of Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Cie (WKC) of Solingen. The blade engraving features several depictions of a cavalry regiment and other ornamental motifs. In the center, the inscription «Schlesw. Holst. Husaren-Regt. No. 16» refers to the 16th (Schleswig-Holstein) Hussars «Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria, King of Hungary»
The 16th Hussar Regiment was part of the 4th Cavalry Division during World War I. This division was deployed on the Western Front until November 5, 1914. He then served on the Eastern Front in Russia until March 31, 1918. In the final year of the war, he returned to the Western Front. He participated in major battles such as the Battle of the Somme, the Battle of Arras, and the Battle of Ypres, among many others.
