Germany / Austria. M1895 bayonet manufactured by Ernst Busch, 1917
Bayonet manufactured in Germany by Ernst Busch in 1917 for the Austrian Mannlicher M1895 rifle.
During the First World War, Prussia supported the Austro-Hungarian Empire with war material; among other supplies, it sent a small number of Mannlicher M1895 rifles. Ernst Busch of Solingen obtained the license to produce the corresponding bayonets, most of which were manufactured between 1917 and 1918.
This bayonet bears the serial number «8012» on the crossguard and the marking «ERNST BUSCH SOLINGEN» on the blade. On the ricasso it has «W17» with a crown, referring to Wilhelm II and the year of manufacture 1917, along with an acceptance stamp. The same marking can also be found on the top of the grip.
