Germany. German M1898/05 n/A (neuer Art, New model) sawback bayonet for the 8mm Mauser Gewehr 98. The wooden handles and scabbard are worn but, on the other hand, the metal part of the handle has been polished. It does not have markings on the blade, so it is deduced that it is privately acquired, probably by an Officer or Non-Commissioned Officer. Although they are also known as «butcher blades», they were actually used by engineer or machine gun troops to clear vegetation or other obstacles. German bayonet from World War I
