East Germany DDR. M59/2 Bayonet for the Kalashnikov AKM Rifle
Modell 59/2 combat bayonet manufactured in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) for the Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle (MPi-KM), used by the National People’s Army (NVA) of East Germany. This transitional variant, produced approximately between 1979 and 1985, combines the bayonet of the first pattern with a fibreglass-reinforced synthetic scabbard. The bayonet and scabbard can be used together as wire cutters.
The scabbard retains the marking “2 1946/3”, together with other engraved serial numbers. This type of inscription is documented on East German Modell 59/2 bayonet scabbards and corresponds to manufacturing or inspection markings.
