East Germany DDR. Commemorative Insignia of the International Brigades, 1936-1976
Commemorative insignia struck in the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in 1976, marking the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. The piece forms part of the GDR’s commemorative tributes to former International Brigade (Interbrigadisten) veterans, particularly the German volunteers who had fought alongside the Spanish Republic.
It displays the words “SOLIDARIDAD” and “PASAREMOS” together with the number “40”, as well as the motto “Voluntarios internacionales de la libertad” surrounding a raised fist and a red star.
