Germany Third Reich. German Police Dress Dagger.
III Reich Polizei Seitengewehr.
In 1929, during the Weimar Republic, the Police Dagger with an eagle’s head, horn grip, and leather scabbard was made regulation. In 1936, with Hitler in power, the German Police was reorganized and centralized under the control of Heinrich Himmler, and from then on, the existing daggers were fitted with the symbol of the Third Reich Police: the eagle with a swastika in its claws and a wreath of oak leaves. In the following years, bayonets with the same design as the dagger but shorter were produced. In 1938, all daggers manufactured during the Weimar Republic were supposedly to be shortened, although in practice this was not always the case. These models continued to be produced until 1941, when the S84/98 bayonet was adopted as the standard weapon for the German Police. Nevertheless, their personal use continued until the end of World War II.
This example was manufactured at the end of the Weimar Republic (1929-1933) by the company E. & F. Hörster of Solingen and later reused and employed by the German Police of the Third Reich, blade cut to the regulation 33 cm. Both the grip and the scabbard bear the same serial number «53».
