Germany Third Reich / Spain. German Medal of the Blue Division by Deschler & Sohn
German medal of the Blue Division, officially the Commemorative Medal for the Spanish Volunteers in the Struggle Against Bolshevism (Erinnerungsmedaille für die spanischen Freiwilligen im Kampf gegen den Bolschewismus), was established on January 3, 1944, to reward the more than 40,000 Spanish volunteers who went to fight in Russia with the 250th Infantry Division, better known as the Blue Division.
The ribbon features the red and yellow colors of the Spanish flag and the black, white, and red of the Third Reich.
On the obverse, a German helmet with a sword behind two shields: the eagle of the Third Reich and the yoke and arrows of the Falange; below is a swastika. On the reverse, the inscription » División Española de Voluntarios en Rusia» (Spanish Volunteer Division in Russia) and an Iron Cross at the bottom.
On the upper ring it bears the mark «1» of the manufacturer Deschler & Sohn of Munich. Made of zinc, it has lost its original gilt finish.
