Germany Third Reich. Luftwaffe Enlisted or NCO Flight Personnel Visor Cap , 1939
German Luftwaffe visor cap for enlisted personnel or non-commissioned officers (German: Luftwaffe Schirmmütze für Mannschaften und Unteroffiziere), manufactured by Christian Haug. The interior retains the silver CRIHA marking, identifying Christian Haug, a Berlin-based manufacturer of Wehrmacht headgear. The sweatband is also marked with the year of manufacture, 1939.
Produced during the first year of the Second World War, this example displays several characteristics typical of this maker, including its coarse wool construction and green underside to the visor. It also retains its original aluminium insignia: the Luftwaffe eagle and the national cockade in black, white, and red, surrounded by an oak leaf wreath.
The orange piping denotes issue to flight personnel or paratroopers (Flieger / Fallschirmjäger). The black leather chinstrap is the regulation type for enlisted men and NCOs of the Luftwaffe.
The exterior of the cap remains in good condition, although the sweatband and internal structure show wear and slight deformation consistent with age and use.
