Third Reich Germany. Stahlhelm Membership Card, 1934
Membership card issued in 1934 by the Stahlhelm, Bund der Frontsoldaten, one of the most important German veterans’ associations established after the First World War.
The card includes the holder’s photograph, the organization’s official stamp, and document number 34, serving as proof of membership.
The Stahlhelm (“Steel Helmet, League of Front Soldiers”) was founded in December 1918 by Franz Seldte shortly after the end of the First World War. Composed primarily of war veterans, it promoted nationalist and conservative ideals, opposed the Weimar Republic, and advocated militaristic and patriotic values. During the 1920s it became one of Germany’s largest and most influential veterans’ organizations.
Following the rise to power of Adolf Hitler in 1933, the Stahlhelm was gradually absorbed into the National Socialist state structure. Although it initially retained a degree of autonomy, it was eventually incorporated into the Sturmabteilung and lost its independence. The organization was officially dissolved in 1935.
