Germany, Third Reich. WW2 Hitler Youth knife with the motto “Blut und Ehre!” manufactured by Emil Voos.
The 1933 HJ knife was the first official edged weapon of the Third Reich and emerged following the decision to standardize the knives that Hitler Youth members had been carrying irregularly since the late 1920s. The official model, presented by Von Schirach in 1933, featured a 14 cm blade with the motto “Blut und Ehre!” (Blood and Honor!) imitating Von Schirach’s handwriting, which was removed beginning in 1938.
This Hitlerjugend (HJ) knife is a first model manufactured between 1933 and 1936 by Emil Voos of Solingen. The diamond with the swastika is slightly smaller (22 × 13 mm) than those found in transitional or late RZM models. It bears the manufacturer logo “E.V.S. Solingen” and “GES. GESCHUTZT,” indicating a registered trademark—characteristic of early markings. It retains the motto “Blut und Ehre!”. Additionally, the hanger is made of brown leather, unlike the later models which used black leather.
