In addition to being an element for cutting as a work tool, it is used to kill animals and skin them, make straps and work leather, to work wood, etc., which the gaucho uses in his crafts. He has also developed it as a self-defense weapon, in the style of fencing, for his protection in such pampas regions. Together with his poncho and his horse, they form the best alliance to defend themselves from possible attacks, using it according to their own very particular laws and philosophies for themselves, as happens in some western martial arts.
