Cap attributed to Serbian combatants associated with Chetnik formations in Republika Srpska during the Bosnian War (1992–1995). Originating from Banja Luka.
The term Chetnik (četnik) originated with Serbian guerrilla groups of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During the Second World War, it became particularly associated with the Serbian monarchist and nationalist movement led by Draža Mihailović. During the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, the name and symbolism were revived by various Serbian nationalist paramilitary and volunteer formations.
In addition to the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), various Serbian paramilitary and volunteer groups operated during the Bosnian War, some of which adopted symbols inspired by the Chetnik tradition.
Caps of this type formed part of the clothing worn by some of these combatants and often incorporated emblems associated with Serbian nationalism or the Chetnik tradition.
