Buckle of the Municipal Guard of Barcelona. Early 20th century.
The Municipal Guard of Barcelona was created in 1843 and in 1907 became the Urban Guard of Barcelona.
This buckle was used by police officers of both corps until 1939.
The bat that appears at the top of the shield was theoretically removed in 1931 but continued to be used until 1939.
The shield features the four Catalan bars and the Cross of Saint George in its four quarters; in 1939, the quarters with the four bars were reduced to two bars.
