Patriotic War Medal 1944-1945 (Bulgarian: Отечествена война 1944-1945), a Bulgarian military decoration instituted on 9 September 1945, before the proclamation of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria in 1946.
The medal was established to recognize the participation of members of the Bulgarian Army and allied forces in military operations against Germany during the final stage of the Second World War, from Bulgaria’s change of allegiance in September 1944 until the end of the conflict in May 1945.
The obverse depicts two crossed rifles with fixed bayonets, positioned in front of two unfurled flags and accompanied by a laurel branch in the lower right section.
The reverse bears the Cyrillic inscription “ОТЕЧЕСТВЕНА ВОЙНА 1944-1945”, translated as “Patriotic War 1944-1945”.
The medal is suspended from a green ribbon mounted on a triangular suspension, with red and light-coloured stripes, white or yellowish, along the edges.
