Mao’s Little Red Book or Quotations from Chairman Mao Zedong was published in 1964.
In late 1965 the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China officially approved the publication of the book by the People’s Publishing House and its distribution in the country by Xinhua Bookstores, the largest chain of bookstores in China and the only one nationwide.
The first translations were made in 1966 by the Foreign Language Press of Beijing.
