Spain. Collar Badge of the Territorial Police of the Spanish Sahara.
This insignia was originally the collar badge, or diamond-shaped collar device, of the Territorial Police of the Spanish Sahara.
The Territorial Police of the Sahara was established in 1960 by a decree dated 17 November 1960, published in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE) on 1 December of the same year.
This force, which had a military character and organisation, was assigned the following duties:
a) Maintaining public security and public order in general.
b) Intelligence and investigative duties in their various fields.
c) The investigation of all types of offences and the apprehension of offenders, who were to be handed over to the competent authorities.
d) The surveillance and security of urban and rural settlements.
e) The protection of persons and property.
f) The performance of duties associated with judicial, urban and forestry policing, as well as customs and fiscal enforcement.
g) Ensuring strict compliance with laws and other mandatory regulations.
h) Carrying out special duties assigned by the Governor-General, delegates and other competent provincial authorities.
The force came under the Presidency of the Government, with the Governor-General of the province acting as its inspector.
