Croix du combattant de l’Europe.
The Cross of the Combatant of Europe is a decoration awarded by the European Confederation of Veterans, on the proposal of its president. It rewards the services rendered by veterans of Europe and its allies who, faithful to the honour of the soldier and eager to spare future generations the suffering and horrors of war, commit themselves to working together for the construction of a united Europe and the defence of civilisation.
The Cross of the Combatant of Europe is an associative medal.
Conditions for award
Candidates must hold a veteran combatant’s card —in France— or, failing that, a war title, an official recognition from their nation, or recognition of services rendered to a European army.
The Cross of the Combatant of Europe is composed of three crosses evoking Western civilisation and its unity: the white cross symbolises peace; the red cross represents the human sacrifices made by nations to preserve that peace; and the golden cross symbolises the indivisible glory of all those who fought honourably for their homeland.
The insignia is suspended from a blue ribbon with twelve golden stars. The Cross of the Combatant of Europe is accompanied by a diploma.
