The current Royal Academy has its origins in the association sponsored in 1951 by a group of Mallorcan historians and genealogists, under the title of the Mallorcan Academy of Genealogical Studies. Its statutes were approved by the then Ministry of the Interior, following a report from the Ministry of National Education, on January 18, 1952, the date from which it began its legal life and operation.
