Eduardo René Chibás y Ribas (Santiago de Cuba, August 26, 1907 – Havana, August 16, 1951), Cuban politician and founder on May 15, 1947 of the Cuban People’s Party or Orthodox Party, characterized by its emphasis on denouncing the corruption that existed on the part of prominent members of the Authentic Party and the government. Among the young people who joined the Orthodox Party attracted by the personality and ideas of Chibás was the lawyer Fidel Castro, future leader of the Cuban Revolution of 1959, later Cuban Prime Minister and President.
