Czechoslovakia. Sokol Badge from Prague, 1948
Sokol was a Czech movement founded in 1862 that combined physical education, patriotism, and moral development, promoting national unity and self-discipline. Inspired by ideals of freedom and active citizenship, it organized gymnastic, cultural, and civic activities. Sokol played a key role in shaping Czech and Slovak identity, participating in the resistance against Austro-Hungarian rule, Nazism, and later Communism.
This badge dates from the period of the Third Czechoslovak Republic (1945–1948), just before the last major Slet (mass gymnastic gathering) organized by Sokol before it was dissolved and absorbed into Communist youth and sports organizations.
