Spain. Socket Bayonet for the Remington Model 1871 Rifle
Spanish socket bayonet from the second half of the 19th century, adopted for the Remington Model 1871 rifle, which was adopted by the Spanish Army in 1871. The rifle used the Rolling Block breech-loading system, with a pivoting breechblock, and remained in Spanish military service during the final decades of the 19th century, including the campaigns in Cuba and the Philippines and the period of the Carlist Wars. The bayonet features a triangular three-edged blade and locking ring, characteristic of the Spanish regulation model. It retains the «C» beneath a royal crown, identified as an examiner’s mark, together with the number «1».
Its dimensions are 62.4 cm overall, with a 56 cm blade.
