Spain. Requeté or Carlist Dagger / Fighting Knife of the Spanish Civil War
Period fighting knife or dagger dating from the Spanish Civil War, customized for use by a member of the Requetés, the volunteer Carlist militias associated with the Traditionalist Communion that fought on the Nationalist side during the conflict.
The original grip was replaced with a wooden hilt bearing the Carlist emblem, featuring the crowned double-headed eagle and the Cross of Burgundy, one of the most recognizable symbols of Spanish traditionalism.
The blade is marked SEAM 1936/8, identifying manufacture by the Sociedad Española de Armas y Municiones of Eibar, one of Spain’s leading arms manufacturers of the period.
