Spain. Guardia Civil Captain’s Tunic, Second Spanish Republic, Spanish Civil War
Dark blue tunic with red collar and cuffs, corresponding to the Guardia Civil uniform system of the reign of Alfonso XIII, subsequently modified for use during the Second Spanish Republic and the Spanish Civil War. Its original configuration corresponds to the uniform regulations of 1911 and 1912, when the uniform of officers retained the characteristic dark blue colour. The collar retains two embroidered insignia bearing the letters “GC”, with the Royal Crown that originally accompanied the initials under the monarchy removed.
The tunic also features buttons bearing the emblem adopted for the Guardia Civil during the Republican period, consisting of the letters “GC” within an oval border. It retains its 14 front buttons, arranged in two rows, together with the two shoulder-strap buttons, two sleeve buttons and four rear buttons. The buttons are marked “E. MUÑOZ BEJAR”; some have become detached and are held in place with a pin. Each sleeve bears the three six-pointed stars corresponding to the rank of Captain. The tunic is in good condition, with no moth holes.
