Spain. Cavalry or Infantry Officer Shoulder Boards AXIII, 1886–1897
The Cavalry Uniform Regulation of 1886, during the Regency of Maria Christina of Austria, established the following:
“Tunics: more fitted to the body than the frock coat and more functional, approved in 1884; on the shoulder boards the numerals ‘AXIII’ are placed, which in the line of dynastic continuity adopt the design of those of the previous monarch.”
The Infantry Uniform Regulation of 1886 established the following:
“It is ordered that Chiefs and Officers who use the frock coat as their regulation garment replace the AXII cipher on the shoulder boards with AXIII.”
These shoulder boards remained in use until they were replaced by the Regulation of 1897.
