Official insignia worn by Battalion Commissars of the Popular Army of the Republic during the Spanish Civil War.
Political commissars were responsible for political guidance, morale, and discipline within Republican military units, serving as a link between military commanders and the political authorities. The rank of Battalion Commissar was considered equivalent to that of a lieutenant within the structure of the Political Commissariat Corps.
This insignia could be worn either on the breast or on the sleeve of the uniform, clearly identifying the wearer’s role within the unit.
