Spain. Palatine Medal of the Regency of María Cristina, 1902. Silver.
The Regency of María Cristina, established following the death of Alfonso XII and the subsequent minority of his son, Alfonso XIII, came to an end on 17 May 1902, when the King reached the age of majority.
The medal was instituted by Alfonso XIII by Royal Order of 14 May 1903. It was awarded to the senior staff of the Royal Household, members of the court ceremonial service, and military personnel, both officers and enlisted men, serving in the Royal Escort, including the Royal Halberdiers.
It was worn for the first time by its initial recipients on 18 May 1903.
