The Vietnam Service Medal (VSM) is a United States military decoration established in 1965 to recognize participation in the Vietnam War. It was awarded to members of the Armed Forces who served in the Southeast Asia theater of operations, including Vietnam, its territorial waters, and support areas in neighboring countries.
To receive it, at least one of the following requirements had to be met: participation for at least one day in units or vessels supporting military operations, involvement in aerial missions in the area, or completion of a period of 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days of service (except in direct combat).
