The Military Medal is a French military decoration instituted on 22 January 1852 by Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte. It was established for enlisted personnel and non-commissioned officers and, in exceptional cases, for general officers and Marshals of France.
It is often referred to as the «Legion of Honour for Enlisted Personnel and Non-Commissioned Officers», the «Medal of the Brave», or the «Jewel of the Nation».
