Miniature of the Médaille militaire, a decoration established in 1852 to reward distinguished military service. This example corresponds to the Third Republic model, introduced in 1870, identifiable by the profile of Marianne on the central medallion, surrounded by the inscription “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE ★ 1870 ★”. The reverse bears the motto “VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE” (Valor and Discipline). This model remained officially in use until 1951.
