France. First French Empire. An XI Light Cavalry Officer’s Sabre (1802)
French sabre for a Light Cavalry officer, Model An XI, adopted during the Napoleonic First Empire. This pattern was an evolution of the An IX sabre and the French equivalent of the British Model 1796 sabre, both intended for light cavalry.
This example retains the blue-blued finish and gilt decoration on the blade, characteristic of officer-grade examples. The blade shows several nicks consistent with use and is preserved without its scabbard.
Original French sabre from the Napoleonic Wars period.
