Prussian enlisted men’s shako (Preußischer Mannschaften-Tschako), Model M1915, worn by the Imperial German Army during the First World War. Constructed from hardened black lacquered leather, with grey oxidised steel fittings characteristic of the 1915 regulation changes, which replaced the earlier brass, nickel silver and tombak components.
The front bears the Prussian eagle plate (Wappen), displaying the motto «MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND», secured by its original fixing wedges. It retains the black and white Prussian felt cockade at the front, the black, white and red Imperial cockade on the side, the M1891 fittings and the original leather chinstrap with steel buckles.
The shako body features eight ventilation holes with metal reinforcements. Both peaks retain their original intact stitching, while the interior preserves the complete leather liner, including all its tongues and adjustment cord. Marked size 57 and dated 1916.
Very good condition, with a glossy exterior lacquer finish, superficial age-related cracking, slight leather shrinkage and minor traces of oxidation on the metal fittings, without noticeable structural damage.
Original period Prussian enlisted men’s M1915 shako, First World War, dated 1916. Size 57. Retains its principal original components and remains in very good overall condition.
