Germany. German Model 1916 helmet with camouflage paint.
The German Model 1916 helmet (M16) was introduced during World War I to replace the leather Pickelhaube helmets, which offered little protection against shrapnel. In 1918, a directive was issued to paint the helmets in camouflage, but it was applied to only a few due to the war ending shortly afterward.
This helmet retains its interior leather band and part of the original camouflage paint.
Inside the shell, the lot number “1222” is stamped, along with “Si. 66” on the side, indicating the manufacturer Eisenhütte Silesia and size 66.
