Membership badge of the Nationalsozialistische Frauenschaft (NSF), the National Socialist Women’s League, representing an early pattern dating from approximately 1931 to 1934.
The Nationalsozialistische Frauenschaft was established in October 1931 as a women’s organization affiliated with the National Socialist German Workers’ Party (NSDAP). Following Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in 1933, it played an important role in the organization and ideological indoctrination of German women, promoting National Socialist ideals concerning motherhood, family life, domestic education and women’s role in society.
The badge belongs to the early years of the organization, before the establishment of its later patterns. Such insignia identified the wearer’s membership in the organization.
The badge measures 44 × 37 mm and bears the reverse marking “Ges. Gesch.”, an abbreviation of the German Gesetzlich Geschützt (“Legally Protected”), indicating legal protection of the design. This marking does not, in itself, identify the manufacturer.
