Luftwaffe Breast Eagle (Luftwaffen-Brustadler), corresponding to the pattern worn by enlisted personnel and non-commissioned officers of the German Air Force during the Second World War (1939-1945).
The insignia depicts the Luftwaffe national eagle with outstretched wings in flight, holding a swastika in its talons. This emblem was one of the principal identifying features of German military aviation uniforms.
This example is machine-embroidered in white thread on a grey wool backing, characteristic of the cloth versions intended for enlisted men and non-commissioned officers. This type of embroidery allowed standardized production for use on regulation uniforms.
The insignia was sewn onto the right breast of the uniform tunic, particularly on Luftwaffe service dress and field uniforms.
