German Model M1884/98 bayonet (Seitengewehr 84/98 III), a regulation bayonet used by the German Armed Forces (Wehrmacht) during the Second World War, primarily intended for the Mauser Karabiner 98k rifle.
The bayonet features Bakelite grip scales, a metal pommel with a rifle attachment release button and a straight crossguard. It retains its corresponding metal scabbard.
The blade bears the marking “43 fnj”, identifying the year of manufacture as 1943 and the manufacturer’s code “fnj”, attributed to Alexander Coppel GmbH, a cutlery manufacturer based in Solingen, Germany.
Both the bayonet and its scabbard bear the matching serial number “7166”, a particularly desirable feature among collectors, identifying the two components as a matching numbered set.
The grip release button retains the military inspection marking Waffenamt “WaA251”, associated with the German military inspection and acceptance system used during this period.
The bayonet is in very good condition, retaining its components and identifying markings.
