Germany. M1915 Leupold Combat Knife, First World War
The M1915 Leupold combat knife (German: Kampfmesser oder Dolchmesser M1915) was adopted by the Imperial German Army during the First World War as a weapon intended for close-quarters combat, particularly in trench warfare.
Decree No. 57316, dated 9 December 1915, established the specifications for a combat knife identified by the reference numbers 925 or 927. The first examples were manufactured by Leupold of Gefrees, which is why this pattern is also commonly referred to as the «Leupold» combat knife. Many examples, including this one, bear no manufacturer’s markings, as they were produced exclusively for military use.
This model is characterized by its wooden grip scales with nine grooves, S-shaped steel crossguard, steel scabbard, and leather frog.
