German military identification and service record book (Wehrpass) of the Wehrmacht, belonging to Oskar Ludwig Büchler, born on 12 April 1901, possibly in Söllingen according to the document, with an administrative reference to the Erfurt district. His civilian occupation was bricklayer or mason (Maurer). The document records his nationality as German (Deutsches Reich), religion as Protestant (evangelisch) and marital status as married (verheiratet).
The document was issued on 7 March 1939 by the Wehrbezirkskommando Erfurt (Erfurt Military District Command). It retains the holder’s original identification photograph, showing him wearing a civilian jacket and tie, secured by two metal rivets and accompanied by official stamps. It also contains family information, military classification records, handwritten entries and administrative signatures.
Page 7 records the classification “tauglich Landwehr II – Zur Wehrüberwachung”, dated 7 March 1939 at Erfurt and signed by an Oberst und Kommandeur (colonel and commander). This entry indicates that Büchler was considered fit for military service within the Landwehr II category, associated with older reservists, and remained subject to military administrative supervision. It does not indicate immediate entry into active service.
Page 11, concerning active military service (Aktiver Wehrdienst), documents his induction into the German Army on 13 January 1942, with an assignment to an Ersatz-Ausbildungs-Kompanie located in Haarlem, a Dutch city under German occupation during the Second World War.
The Ersatz-Ausbildungs-Kompanien were replacement and training companies responsible for receiving, organizing and preparing military personnel. Büchler’s presence in Haarlem documents his connection with the German military organization established in occupied Dutch territory.
The same page records a medical examination on 17 January 1942, with the result entered as k. v., and his military oath on 21 February 1942. The available entries do not establish his participation in combat operations or conclusively identify subsequent assignments to front-line units.
The Wehrpass also contains information relating to his physical characteristics and personal equipment. Page 46 records blood group O (Blutgruppe 0), together with sizes for his steel helmet (Stahlhelm), cap (Mütze) and boots (Stiefel). The figures appear to indicate size 57 for the helmet and cap, and possibly size 42 for the boots, although these readings require confirmation.
The group is accompanied by three original administrative documents relating to his military history before his induction in 1942:
These three documents provide evidence of different stages of his relationship with the German military authorities, from pre-war administrative procedures to his actual induction in 1942.
The Wehrpass is in relatively good condition, with minor wear to the cover, corners and spine. The interior pages retain handwritten entries, signatures, official stamps and the original identification photograph.
The group provides historical evidence of the Wehrmacht’s classification, mobilization and induction procedures during the Second World War, particularly through his training assignment in Haarlem, in the occupied Netherlands, and the accompanying administrative documents.
