Germany. Third Reich. Military Service Photo Album, French Campaign
Third Reich-era photographic album titled “Erinnerungen an meine Dienstzeit” (“Memories of My Time in Service”) on the cover, featuring a raised representation of the Reich War Flag (Reichskriegsflagge).
The album retains an extensive collection of original photographs accompanied by handwritten German captions. The images document various aspects of military life, including training, formations, field exercises, fortification work (Schanzarbeiten) and guard duty (Wachdienst). They also show everyday barracks life, leisure and comradeship, as well as group photographs of the soldiers.
One section is headed “Quartier in Frankreich” (“Quarters in France”) and contains photographs documenting the servicemen’s stay in French territory. Other captions identify scenes such as “Das Schweineschlachten” (“The Pig Slaughter”), “Kameradschaftsabend” (“Comradeship Evening”) and “Die Korporalschaft”, referring to a group of soldiers under the command of a corporal.
