Period photographic album associated with the German Luftwaffe during the Second World War, principally devoted to military pilot training, airfield activities, training aircraft and the fellow servicemen of its original owner.
The earliest photographs are associated with Flugzeugführer-Schule A/B 113, covering the period from 3 April 1940 to 27 February 1941. The location indicated appears to be Markersdorf / N.D.. Other pages contain references to Flugzeugführerschule C 9, linking the album to different stages of German military flying instruction.
The photographs document training activities, classroom instruction, flights, military personnel, airfield installations, individual portraits, group photographs and scenes of everyday life. References also appear to Lippstadt, Mannheim-Sandhofen and Kirchlaibach, as well as various towns and landscapes in Germany and Austria.
Aircraft documented in the album include the Focke-Wulf Fw 44 Stieglitz, Arado Ar 65, Junkers W 34, Junkers Ju 52/3m and Junkers Ju 86. The album also contains references to B/1 and B/2 flying instruction, formation flights and familiarisation with different aircraft types.
One of its most historically significant features is the presence of numerous portraits of airmen identified by handwritten captions. Names that can be read or provisionally identified include Hans Osterloh, Hans Böhl, Franz Rupp, Heinz Ehlert, Werner Priebe, Rudi von Dahl, Bernd Wortmann, Oskar Brehm, Herbert Holzmann, Hermann Müller, Ernst Dreher, Werner Sohn, Fritz Roth and Karl Heinz Wimmer, among others.
Several portraits are accompanied by commemorative crosses and the German inscription Gefallen für Großdeutschland, indicating the deaths of the servicemen concerned. There are also references to aviation accidents, such as abgestürzt, and to missing airmen, including an annotation apparently reading vermisst / Russland 1943.
