Germany, Third Reich. WW2 German Red Cross Nurse Badge (Deutsches Rote Kreuz-Helferin).
With the control marking «Ges. Gesch.» (gesetzlich geschützt, legally protected).
The inscription “Deutsches Rote Kreuz-Helferin” refers to the female auxiliaries of the German Red Cross during the Third Reich and the Second World War.
These women, known simply as Helferinnen (auxiliaries), served in military hospitals, infirmaries, hospital trains, and aid posts. Their work was essential in caring for wounded soldiers, tending to the sick, as well as performing logistical and administrative tasks related to military health services. Although they were not part of the Wehrmacht as combatants, they were integrated into the war support system and, in many cases, served close to the front.
