Imperial Germany. 100th Anniversary Medal of the Infantry Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm (2nd Grand Duchy of Hesse). 1813-1913. With images of Ernst Ludwig and Kaiser Wilhelm. German medal used during World War I.
This medal was issued to commemorate the centenary of the formation of the Infanterie-Regiment Kaiser Wilhelm (2. Großherzoglich Hessisches), an infantry regiment of the Imperial German Army that played a significant role in several military campaigns during the 19th and early 20th centuries. The regiment was founded in 1813, and the medal was created in 1913 to celebrate its centenary.
The medal features two important images:
Ernst Ludwig, the Grand Duke of Hesse, on one side of the medal, who was a key figure in German politics and played a role in the protection and maintenance of the regiment.
Kaiser Wilhelm II, the German Emperor, on the other side, a central figure during World War I and the leadership of the German Empire at that time.
This medal was particularly used during World War I, symbolizing the regiment’s historical connection with the German Empire and its importance in the defense and war efforts of Germany.
