Imperial Germany. Prussian Troops Belt Buckle. World War I. Steel.
The Prussian Troops Belt Buckle (Preußen Koppelschloss ab 1914 für Mannschaften) is a belt buckle used by soldiers of the German Empire during World War I. Made of steel, the buckle featured the inscription «Gott mit uns» («God with us») in the center, a phrase that symbolized faith and loyalty to the country and the Empire, being one of the most well-known mottos used by the German armed forces during that period.
This piece of equipment was part of the military uniform and represented the soldier’s connection to his imperial identity. The belt buckle was worn on the belt and became a symbol of German militarism, also associated with the ideologies of World War I.
