Military long-service medal of the Republic of Indonesia, known as the Satyalancana Kesetiaan 8 Tahun, awarded in recognition of eight years of faithful and continuous military service in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (Tentara Nasional Indonesia, TNI).
Instituted in 1958, this decoration forms part of the Indonesian military awards system established to recognize loyalty, dedication and sustained service among members of the armed forces.
The medal features a circular shape with a scalloped or wavy edge, characteristic of various Indonesian decorations from the mid-20th century.
The obverse depicts the Indonesian national emblem, the Garuda Pancasila, consisting of an eagle with outstretched wings bearing the national shield and holding a scroll inscribed “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity).
The reverse bears the inscription “PRADJURIT SETIA VIII”, meaning “Faithful Soldier”, with the Roman numeral VIII indicating eight years of recognized service. The inscription is surrounded by a vegetal wreath of rice stalks and cotton branches, traditional symbols of prosperity and social justice in Indonesian national iconography.
The medal is suspended from a blue-striped ribbon, featuring a dark blue central band with light blue stripes along the edges.
Unlike the Satyalancana Gerakan Operasi Militer (G.O.M.) campaign medals, awarded for participation in specific military operations, the Satyalancana Kesetiaan recognized the length and faithful nature of military service.
This decoration belongs to the period of organization and consolidation of Indonesia’s military institutions in the years following national independence.
