Military campaign medal of the Republic of Indonesia, known as the Satyalancana Gerakan Operasi Militer II (G.O.M. II), awarded in recognition of participation in military operations against the Angkatan Perang Ratu Adil (APRA) rebellion in 1950.
The decoration features a circular shape with a scalloped or lobed edge, characteristic of this series of Indonesian campaign medals.
The obverse bears the inscription G.O.M. II, surrounded by a vegetal composition incorporating rice and cotton motifs, traditional elements of Indonesian national symbolism.
The reverse generally bears the inscription “REPUBLIK INDONESIA”, identifying the Republic of Indonesia as the awarding authority.
The medal is suspended from a red ribbon with five vertical black stripes, the distinctive ribbon design associated with the G.O.M. II.
The initials G.O.M. stand for Gerakan Operasi Militer (Military Operations), while the Roman numeral II identifies the second campaign recognized within this series of decorations.
The medal is associated with the events of January 1950, when the armed organization APRA, led by former Dutch officer Raymond Westerling, launched a rebellion against the Indonesian authorities.
On 23 January 1950, APRA forces attacked Bandung in West Java, seeking to preserve certain federal structures and oppose the consolidation of the new Indonesian state. The rebellion was eventually suppressed by government forces.
The Satyalancana G.O.M. II belongs to a series of decorations established to recognize military service during operations aimed at consolidating the authority of the Republic of Indonesia in the early years following independence.
