Made of brass in the 1980s, this chest insignia was worn by members of the Prison Services of the Generalitat de Catalunya after the transfer of prison services to the Generalitat in 1984. This transfer was part of the Transfer Law from the Central Government to the Autonomous Communities, allowing the Generalitat to take responsibility for prisons in Catalonia as part of its self-government process, which began with the approval of the Statute of Autonomy in 1979.
The insignia represented the rank of Medium Technician Office within the Prison Services, an administrative position related to the management of these services under the Generalitat.
