Israel. Israeli bayonet Mk. 1A or M1949
This bayonet was the first model manufactured entirely in Israel for the Mauser Kar 98k rifle. Unlike the first bayonets used, which were conversions of the German M1884/98 III bayonet, this one was produced in Israel to equip the newly created Tsahal, the Israeli Army, in 1949.
On the blade and scabbard, it bears the markings:
«כידון 1א
היוצר 101
ש 49″
translated as “Bayonet Mk. 1A / Manufacturer 101 / 1949.” It also contains the Hebrew letter Tsadi «צ,» referring to the Israel Defense Forces, and the Star of David, the official acceptance mark of the Israeli government. The serial number is “27851.”
Total length: 41 cm
Length without scabbard: 38.3 cm
Blade length: 24.8 cm
