Israel / Third Reich Germany. Israeli bayonet converted from a German M1884/98 III Bayonet
German M1884/98 III bayonet, originally manufactured for the German armed forces during the Third Reich period and subsequently reused and modified by Israel during the early years of its armed forces. In the late 1940s, Jewish military organizations and subsequently the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) incorporated large quantities of German-origin Mauser rifles and their corresponding bayonets.
This example retains the «S/176G» marking on the scabbard, corresponding to Paul Weyersberg & Co., Solingen, with G as the 1935 year code, together with the number «2657 b». The crossguard retains the number «2817». The original blade markings have been removed, while the scabbard bears Israeli property markings consisting of a Star of David and the Hebrew letter Tsadi (צ) within a circle, used as a government property mark. These markings confirm the subsequent incorporation of the bayonet into Israeli military service.
