Italy. War Merit Cross Medal, period of Vittorio Emanuele III
The War Merit Cross (Croce al Merito di Guerra) is an Italian military decoration instituted by Royal Decree on January 19, 1918, during the First World War. Its purpose was to reward military personnel who had demonstrated exemplary conduct, bravery, or distinguished service in war actions. It could also be awarded for prolonged service in combat zones or for being wounded in action.
This model features the monogram of Victor Emmanuel III of Italy (Vittorio Emanuele III) on the reverse, manufactured and awarded between 1918 and 1945, within the context of the First World War, Second World War, Spanish Civil War, or the Ethiopian War.
